About Hiluhilu

Jewelry with a legacy.

Hiluhilu celebrates the enduring tradition of Hawaiian heirloom jewelry through timeless design, exceptional craftsmanship, and a deep connection to Hawaiʻi.

Named for the Hawaiian word hiluhilu, meaning “to beautify” or “to dignify,” every piece is handcrafted in Hawaiʻi from solid 14K gold and individually engraved by hand using traditional techniques.

Created by Paradisus founders Linda Ueda and Akemi Jensen, Hiluhilu is the culmination of more than two decades of creative collaboration with renowned Kumu Hula Sonny Ching. Inspired by Hawaiian motifs, hula, and moʻolelo, the collection honors the past while expressing a distinctly contemporary vision.

Every heirloom bracelet is meticulously hand engraved by Master Engraver Jason Dow, making each piece unique and preserving an art form that cannot be replicated by machines.

More than jewelry, Hiluhilu is a story in gold—created to carry names, memories, and meaning from one generation to the next.

Handcrafted in Hawaiʻi. Engraved by hand. Made to become an heirloom.

Meet our Founders

Akemi Ueda Jensen

"My jewelry has always been rooted in quality craftsmanship and intentional design—each piece created to tell a story. After 20 years of collaboration with esteemed Kumu Hula Sonny Ching, I felt the time was right to introduce a new chapter within the Sonny Ching Collection: a luxury line that honors tradition while embracing refinement. Inspired by the jewelry most cherished by the people of Hawai‘i, we were drawn to the timeless beauty of Hawaiian heirloom pieces. This new collection offers a fresh perspective—one that blends culturally authentic motifs with our signature design sensibility. Like all pieces in the Sonny Ching Collection, each design carries deep symbolic meaning, reflecting our continued commitment to cultural integrity and storytelling. To bring this vision to life, we turned to master jeweler Jason Dow. His exceptional artistry and handmade craftsmanship made him the natural choice to help us elevate this heirloom collection with unmatched detail and care. At Hiluhilu, we believe jewelry should do more than adorn—it should connect. This new line is an invitation to carry forward tradition, meaning, and personal legacy in a distinctly luxurious way.”

"Hawaiian bangles have always held a place of honor in the islands—they’re timeless. But what we’re seeing now is a global resurgence of interest in cultural authenticity. People are yearning for jewelry with roots, with connection, with a story. Hawaiian bangles check all those boxes—and then some. In an age of fast fashion and mass production, these bracelets offer permanence. They represent family, memory, and place—whether you're from Hawaiʻi or deeply connected to it in spirit. And with the rise of platforms where people share meaningful life moments—engagements, births, milestones—more and more are turning back to heirloom jewelry as a way to mark those moments in lasting, tangible ways. The HiluHilu collection aligns perfectly with this shift—offering fine craftsmanship, modern interpretations, and cultural relevance at a time when all of those things are in high demand."

"I'm excited to be part of a project that allows me to create authentic heirloom quality pieces using my skills as a hand engraver.  I am using a combination of traditional and modern techniques to bring these creations to life.  Most important to me is keeping traditional techniques alive that are more and more becoming lost in the modern age.  For example I am still hand engraving all the inscriptions in fine script... a result that is far superior than any other method but often not used do due lack of skill, knowledge of the technique, or simply because it takes more time and effort.  Making everything by hand in my Honolulu workshop is the key to their success and ensuring they are beautiful as well as built to last for generations."
